A Complete Guide to Caring for Your Wedding Gown After Steaming
Your wedding gown is one of the most meaningful pieces you’ll ever wear — and once it has been professionally steamed and prepared, there are a few simple steps you can follow to ensure it stays flawless right up until you slip it on.
Whether we’re returning your gown to you via pickup, drop-off, or same-day service, this guide will help you keep it smooth, clean, and beautifully shaped.
Transporting Your Gown
Transport your gown in a vehicle that allows plenty of space.
If possible:
Lay the back seat down so the gown can be stretched out fully
Avoid folding or bunching the train
Use an extra-long garment bag, or
Lay the gown flat on top of a clean sheet
Your dress should be able to rest at full length — this helps preserve the steaming work and prevents new creases from forming during the journey.
Hanging Your Gown at Home
Once you arrive home or back at your accommodation, hang your gown as high as possible.
The best spots are:
A high door frame
A sturdy curtain rod
A wardrobe rail with height clearance
Keep the gown in its bag to protect it from dust, pets, and accidental marks.
Important:
Open the bottom of the garment bag and gently spread out the train.
If the gown touches the ground, lay a clean sheet underneath it to avoid dirt or fabric snagging.
This allows the gown to “settle” beautifully, keeping the drape smooth and the silhouette intact.
What to Avoid
A few common household spots may seem handy but can cause damage:
Do NOT hang your gown from:
Ceiling fans
Light fixtures
Unstable hooks or decorative hangers
These can lead to accidental burns, stretching, fabric stress, or sudden falls — all things we want to avoid in those final hours before your wedding.
Final Tips Before the Big Moment
Try to keep the room cool and dry (humidity can soften fabrics)
Keep the gown protected from perfumes, hairspray, or makeup products
Only handle the gown by the inner seams or straps
Keep pets well away (they love a train)
Even with the very best steaming and preparation, gown care in the last 24 hours makes a noticeable difference.
